The things you learn on Reddit:

TLDR

  • Atkinson Hyperlegible: Made by the https://www.brailleinstitute.org/freefont/
    • The font is made to be hyper-legible (who'd 'ave guessed).
    • The base is available in every Linux Software Manager (also windows and mac).
      • The most extended (has all the font types) is available for download (and is FOSS) from their site.
  • OpenDyslexic Font: https://opendyslexic.org/
    • Made for people who suffer from dyslexia.  And useful for ADHD ppl too.
    • Included in many web extensions and addons.
  • MindFlow (ADHD Firefox Addon):  I'm using this now.
    • Switches website font to OpenDyslexic.
    • Has links to free ebook and ambient audio for study and focus.

Reddit will probably be the only social media I never exit.  Because I just never stop learning things.

Atkinson Hyperlegible Font:

I just switched my website over to this font:

  • Zero vs o: 0 - O - o
  • L vs I: i - I - l - L

Story Time:

A client had a employee go RoUGe!  The client was using free Gmail accounts for business...

Which YOU HAVE NO CONTROL OVER.  As in its really easy for a person to just take full ownership of it.

The ex-employee gave them the password to the account.  A ~200 character random string of text.... on a printed piece of paper.  Which was in Roboto Font.

(they refused to send it via electronic format)

That's the story of how I got that customer to start using business email's instead of free emails.

If you need a business email too:  Contact Me

Atkinson Hyperlegible is named after the founder of the Braille institute.

https://www.brailleinstitute.org/freefont/

FYI you can get this font via Google Fonts, or via your System Software Manager (If on Linux or Mac).  But the ones in the stores are the basic version.  Download the full versions here:  https://www.brailleinstitute.org/freefont#download

They make you fill this out to download it:
(you can put any email in, it's not something that requires verification)

The font is FOSS.  I assume they just want to market their non-profit org.  Which is fine.

The License:

The install instructions are on the download page, just scroll down a bit.

I am using the Hyperlegible-Next version of the font.

My gripe with "Modern Design":

There's a problem in "Modern Design" in that we have this status quo of just using the crisp clean look (sacrifice function for beauty).

Instead of using something that is visually pleasing and functionally superior (more function over beauty).

The Pharmacy Bottle (ClearRx) redesign getting shelved comes to mind:

One of the many reasons I dislike Windows:

You cannot customize things which other systems consider... Basic Options.

Like your system-wide font.

Windows 11 looks slick.  But I have a ~75 yo customer who cannot read a damn thing on his screen.  And has to use the system magnifier to see if an l is an I or a 0 is an O.

Changing font In Mint:

  • Changing the system font, and then:
    • Enable High-Contrast.
    • Use Large Text.

OpenDyslexic Font

I did a whole thing on this already.  And it's what lead me down this rabbit hole.

Now I am using this font to read those hard-to-read man-pages and forums:

My new favorite addon

MindFlow:

Made for ADHD ppl: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/accessible-adhd-dyslexia-addon/

  • Switch on OpenDyslexic font in webpages.
  • Switch Dark/Light mode on any site.
  • Useful Links:
    • Focus Timer
    • TODO List
    • Free Audiobooks
    • Link to an ambient sound youtube channel (for study music)

I like it.
